A Prayer for a Young Soldier
A Prayer for a Young Soldier
Your mama was nervous
Your brothers were sad
You stood proud ‘cause
Your call to duty came to be
And duty you chose
A stranger stood by
Wanting to say
Thank you young man
But all she could say was a prayer that you would be safe
And soon home in your mama’s arms
Everybody stood by
Tears in their eyes
Saying Soldier be safe
Until you return
A mother knows no peace until you are safe at home
A father stays strong
A brother silent
‘cause everyone knows that you may not come home
A stranger stands by with pride in her eyes
At a soldier’s commitment, courage and pride
A stranger stands by wanting to say
Thank you young man
But all she can do is look with pride
For it’s a family’s goodbye
